Earth's Best Organic brand hub hero

Reference coverage. Earth's Best Organic isn't sold by Organic's Best. We cover it because it's the longest-running US organic formula brand and the default supermarket organic option most parents encounter before discovering either Bobbie (US organic premium) or the European imports. Honest editorial, no commercial funnel.

By María López Botín · Mother of 2, researching infant formula and infant nutrition since 2018

Earth's Best Organic is the oldest US organic infant formula brand — established in 1985 in Vermont, eventually acquired by Hain Celestial Group (a diversified natural-foods company), and still produced in the US today. For most of the 2000s and 2010s, Earth's Best was effectively the only widely-available USDA Organic option at US supermarket retail. That changed in 2020 when Bobbie launched with an explicitly EU-style composition; since then Earth's Best has positioned more clearly as the value-oriented organic choice.

Why Earth's Best matters

Earth's Best holds a specific position in the US organic infant formula market:

  • USDA Organic across the main product lines.
  • Longer shelf life in retail channels than any other US organic brand: Whole Foods, Target, Walmart all stock Earth's Best consistently. You can walk in and buy it today in most US zip codes.
  • Lower price point than Bobbie, typically 30-40% cheaper per ounce, though specific pricing varies.
  • Hain Celestial's pricing and distribution infrastructure gives Earth's Best the retail footprint that smaller organic brands cannot match.
  • Covered by WIC in select state programs (varies).

The trade-offs relative to more modern US organic options:

  • Formulation follows older industry conventions: Earth's Best Dairy Infant uses some ingredients (specific synthetic additives, corn-based carb fractions in non-standard lines) that newer brands like Bobbie deliberately avoided when they launched.
  • No whole-milk-fat option (like Kendamil).
  • No HMO fortification in standard lines: Earth's Best hasn't moved to HMOs the way Enfamil NeuroPro, Similac Pro-Advance, Bobbie, and ByHeart have.

Earth's Best vs Bobbie vs European organics

For parents comparing organic options:

  • vs Bobbie. Bobbie is newer (2020) with a deliberately EU-style formulation, lactose first, no corn syrup anywhere, includes lactoferrin. Earth's Best Dairy Infant is also lactose-first but uses some older-generation fortification choices and doesn't include lactoferrin or HMOs. Bobbie is the more composition-optimized US organic; Earth's Best is the value-priced supermarket-available US organic.
  • vs European organic (HiPP, Holle, Kendamil). European organics remain the stronger option on attribute depth (Metafolin, GOS and FOS, Demeter certifications, whole milk fat, etc.). Earth's Best's advantage is US retail availability and lower price.

A reasonable hierarchy for US organic shopping:

  1. European organic (HiPP Dutch / Holle / Kendamil), formulation best, personal-import logistics.
  2. Bobbie: US-registered, EU-style composition, FDA-registered.
  3. Earth's Best, organic, widely available at US retail, entry-level price.
  4. Non-organic US (Similac, Enfamil), if organic isn't a priority.

Manufacturing and certifications

  • USDA Organic certified.
  • FDA-registered under 21 CFR 107.
  • Non-GMO Project Verified.
  • Manufactured at US facilities: Hain Celestial's network.

Recall history

Earth's Best has had periodic lot-level recalls for packaging defects and minor fortification issues. Notable events:

  • Historical smaller recalls, typical of any long-running infant formula operation.
  • Not involved in the 2022 Abbott Cronobacter crisis (separate manufacturing network).

As of April 2026, no major active recall. See the Atlas changelog for cross-brand tracking.

My take on Earth's Best for parents

Earth's Best is a reasonable choice when the parent specifically wants:

  • USDA Organic certification as a baseline requirement.
  • Supermarket retail availability (no import-subscription commitment).
  • Price lower than Bobbie.

For parents who prioritize composition optimization, Bobbie is the better US organic choice, newer formulation with more attention to what the EU organics got right. For parents committed to the strongest available formulation regardless of convenience, European organics via Organic's Best remain the top tier.

Earth's Best is the default US organic for families who encounter it at Whole Foods or Target and who aren't researching the niche in depth. It's not a bad choice. It's just not the optimal choice in 2026.

FAQ

Is Earth's Best Organic actually organic?
Yes. Earth's Best Dairy Infant is USDA Organic certified, meaning the milk sources and agricultural inputs meet the National Organic Program standards. This is a different (and slightly less strict) standard than EU Organic (Regulation 2018/848), but both are credible organic certifications.
Is Earth's Best covered by WIC?
In some US states, yes. WIC formula contracts are state-specific, and Earth's Best has been added to some state-approved lists. Check your state's WIC approved product list directly.
How does Earth's Best compare to Bobbie?
Both are USDA Organic, FDA-registered, lactose-first US formulas. Bobbie is newer (2020) with explicit EU-style composition goals, includes lactoferrin, and positions as premium. Earth's Best is 1985-era with simpler composition and lower pricing. Bobbie is more composition-optimized; Earth's Best is more widely available at US retail.
Does Earth's Best contain corn syrup?
The standard Dairy Infant line uses lactose as the primary carbohydrate and does not list corn syrup solids as a primary ingredient. However, the Sensitivity Infant and Soy Infant variants use glucose syrup or corn syrup solids, typical of US 'sensitive' and soy formulas.
Is Earth's Best made in the US?
Yes. Earth's Best is manufactured in US facilities by Hain Celestial Group. This distinguishes it from European imports (HiPP, Holle, Kendamil) which ship from EU manufacturing.
Does Earth's Best have DHA and ARA?
Yes. Both DHA and ARA are added to Earth's Best Dairy Infant at levels consistent with FDA guidance. The DHA and ARA sources are typically algal (DHA) and fungal (ARA).
